Introduction to the discussion at the Heaxagon on Wednesday 16th May

In many communities dying is a subject that is not openly discussed which often has a negative impact on people’s mental health.

Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust and Reading Borough Council are working with their partners and grass root communities to organise an event that marks both mental health awareness week and dying matters week, both running 14th-20th May. Groups involved include; Acre, Women of Vision, Utulivu Women’s Group, the Sudanese Community, the Gambian Community and many others.

Everyone is invited to share in the wealth of Reading’s community assets and also hear how we can deal with loss while maintaining our wellbeing. The lead speakers will be Janet Regina Bockarie—a local community nurse and a great community pillar- on how she prepared for and dealt with the loss of her husband after battling with a long term condition for 17 years. Also Bridget Maingi—a Mental Health nurse and another great community pillar who lost her daughter after a very short illness three years ago.
